Late last year, the Ohio Assembly passed Stand Your Ground and in 2021, we watched the chaos and violence take place at the U.S. Capitol – but we are not deterred. Together with our partners, we continue to coordinate efforts to change the culture of violence that has grown over these last few years. 

OCAGV is pleased to provide this update on some positive legislation introduced at both the national and state levels – legislation in Congress and the Ohio General Assembly that shows progress in our combined efforts to reduce gun violence. The bills below have been introduced in Congress and we are in support of this legislation:

 

 

The following legislation has been introduced in Ohio’s 134th General Assembly and OCAGV supports these bills. Contact the sponsor representatives here and thank them for their efforts.
 

  • HB 38 – Limit the Locations at Which a Person has No Duty to Retreat (Sponsors: Sen. Sandra R. Williams (D), District 21 & Sen. Cecil Thomas (D), District 9)

  • SB 73 – Regards Firearms Transfers; Require Background Check (Sponsor: Sen. Cecil Thomas (D), District 9)

  • SB 74 – Raise the Minimum Age to Purchase a Firearm (Sponsor: Sen. Cecil Thomas (D), District 9)

  • SB 75 – Regulate the Transfer of Firearms at a Gun Show (Sponsors: Sen. Cecil Thomas (D), District 9 and Sen. Sandra R. Williams (D), District 21)

  • SB 76 – Restore Local Authority to Regulate Firearms-related Conduct (Sponsors: Sen. Cecil Thomas (D), District 9 & Sen. Hearcel Craig (D), District 15)

  • SB 77 – Regards Certain Items that Increase Firearms’ Rate of Fire (Sponsor: Sen. Cecil Thomas (D), District 9)
